Moving Checklist

So, the big day is coming and you are preparing for your big move. Don’t worry I am sure that everything will be a piece of cake for you and your family. However, in order to insure that I am going to provide you with a checklist that you can use to prepare you and your family for the move. How does that sound? To tell you the truth relocating is a whole lot easier if you have a moving checklist that you can go by. A moving checklist is a list of things that you and your family need to get done before you make the transition to your new home. Don’t worry it’s not a list of million things to do, like I know you feel you have to do. It is just a list of a couple of important things that you should so to ensure that there are no loose ends when you move.

Moving Checklist: Two Months Prior to Moving

To begin with I am going to tell you about a couple of things that you should do about two months prior to your moving date. I know you are wondering why you have to get started so early, but the truth of the matter is the sooner you get started, the sooner you will be done and can relax. The first thing you should do if you plan on hiring a moving company is to call around and get a few estimates from some movers that you have in mind. This will allow you the time that you need to make the right decision about the mover. However, if you plan to move yourself and save a little money you will need to contact at least two truck rental companies and get an estimate from them.

Part One of Moving Checklist Continued

Next, on your moving checklist is to create a floor plan of your new home so that you can take note of where all your furniture and appliances will be going in your new home. In some cases the home may be smaller or bigger and you have to do the adjusting. Once you have completed that make an inventory of all your household goods and begin to get rid of the clutter. You can do this by having a yard sale or by donating to charity. If you have things that you need to discard altogether you can send them packing to the dumpster. Make sure that you begin to make a file of all your moving paperwork so that nothing is misplaced or thrown away during the move.

Finishing Up Part One of Moving Checklist

If you have children, you are going to want to arrange transfer of school records so that there is no delay in them attending school when you get to your new residence. Go ahead and make a decision on what moving company that you will be going with or what truck Rental Company that you will be going with so that you can notify them of your moving date. If you fail to arrange the move with them early they may not be able to provide you with services on that day. You will find that your moving checklist is going to keep you ahead of the game. If there is work that needs to be done at your new residence go ahead and call the painters in so that they can have your home ready when you arrive. You don’t want to have delayed your plans later on. Also make sure that you get all the locks changed on your new home before you move in, that way you know that you and your family is safe and that no one else has the key.

Part Two of Your Moving Checklist

The next section on your moving checklist is things that you should do six to eight weeks before your moving date. See this moving checklist does come in handy for you and your family. Number one on your list is to go to the post office and fill out a change of address form. Next, you are going to want to subscribe to the local newspaper in your new town so that you can learn more about the community that you are going to be living in. If you are going to need storage space go ahead and call and arrange that to be taken care of. Obtain all your families medical records and ask your doctors for referrals to doctors in your new town. Have your antiques and valuables appraised, clean your closets and drawers, and start using food and cleaning supplies that cannot be taken with you on the move.

Finishing Your Moving Checklist

I have gone over with you what you should do two months prior to moving and what you should do six to eight weeks before moving. I hope that the information that I have provided you with comes in handy and that you find your moving checklist to be very helpful. Also remember that you must finish completing your moving checklist on your own. If you need help finishing the moving checklist get on the internet or ask someone who has already gone through this to help you out. However, you are the only one that knows what specific needs your family has and where they should be on the checklist. If you think that I have left something out on the moving checklist feel free to add it in. This is your moving checklist, remember that.
